So, our adventure began in the city of Bangkok. This was an interesting place, drastic change in culture. The city is
fecking HUGE. Very hot, about 34 degrees. The hotels we stayed in were class, only 15/18 euros per night. Outdoor swimming
pools (on roof of one), restaurants etc... living the high life for parts of the day.
Thai women... god the women...
they're beautiful... they're everywhere.
The 1st night, we just strolled around a couple of streets (were knackered from the 10.5hr flight). Like everywhere,
it has its good & its bad. There are skyscrapers everywhere, with liitle sidestreets that look dodgy & rundown. Everywhere,
there are little stalls at the side of the road, selling trinkets & food (looks like dog-meat or rat-burgers). You
get taxi guys following you looking to take you around for a few baht, you just tell em to feck off mostly.
Though, one day a taxi guy took us everywhere for a whole day - literally a whole day & waited for us while we shopped
etc - for 12 euros.
Got ourselves some tailor made clothes too. It makes us look even sexier, I have to say. The shop was run by these Indian
guys. The measure you up, make the items, you try them on the next day. They adjust/remake them accordingly. My
skinny ass couldnt fill the pants, so they were patting me down for about 10 minutes, trying to figure out what adjustments
to make. Then they told Emmet he has a nice body. They were nice guys.
The 2nd & 3rd nights, we got a hotel in Patpong area. We went out & walked through the 2 main streets & nearly
got molested by little sexy Thai girls. They catch hold of you & try drag you into a bar. There were Go-Go bars everywhere
- Thai dancers on stage in Bikinis looking for Western men. I think most of them are actually women... some were definitely
ladyboys.
During the day, we took a boatride around Bangkok - you get a good view of the poverty here. I couldnt help notice how
all the people in these shanty towns were all smiling though. We saw a snake show... which proved to be quite scary. These
guys were crazy, nearly getting bitten every few seconds. One snake escaped over the fence & was making a beeline for
my legs before the guy caught him by the tail. Any closer & I would've squeeled like a little girl.
From here, we got a 12 hour train ride south. This was an experience, believe me. There were these 'beds' to sleep on
overnight. Being a little taller than the average Thai chap, we found ourselves a little cramped. Not that you'd be able to
sleep with the noise & shaking. The 'toilet' was a cubicle with a hole in the floor, the tracks whizzing by below. I held
it.
But the train journey was well worth it, as (1 ferry trip later) we are now on the island of Ko Sumai (east
coast of Thailand). We're staying on Chawenga beach (huge). This place is amazing.... like 'The Beach' film, except with
more than 15 people. There's 1 street that runs the whole length of the beach, with everything you need. This doesnt
take away from the 'untouched' feeling of the beach area, as the facilites are quite welcome when its too hot. Our Bungalow
is right on the beach, which has white sand & perfectly clear water. I always said when I was a kid that I'd never
get married. But after coming here, I wanna spend my honeymoon here. A little sign where we enter the beach says
'Welcome to Heaven', and its so true.
Tomorrow we start the activities - jungle treks, elephant rides, kayaking, snorkelling etc. Cant wait.
We have a week here before moving on to Phuket island for a few days, then Kuala Lumper in Malaysia, then Singapore.
