After our horrible 12 hour flight to LA, we... wait for it.... arrived in LA. For 2 days. Taking the better advice of
people we met on our travels from LA, we didnt go near downtown. Walking through downtown LA with a rucksack on your back
is like waving a sign saying 'Please shoot me'. So we stayed in Santa Monica, an area with a lot of tourists, on the beach,
only 45 mins from Hollywood. Santa Monica was a nice place (a few weirdos but nothing like Chicago). Being winter here
(summer in Oz & NZ), it p*ssed rain for a lot of the 2 days we had here, but we had a bit of sunshine to see the
beach & Hollywood. We saw where the Acadamy Awards take place, we saw the stars on the footpath, and of
course, the famous Hollywood sign.
It was grand for us just to chill out here for a few days, it broke up the 2 twelve-hour journeys between NZ and Heathrow.
(Thank God for the in-flight movies). So we had the 12 hour journey from LA to Heathrow (Ugh!), then the connecting flight
back to Ireland.
When we flew out of Cork airport a year ago, it was snowing. When we arrived back into Cork airport, it
was snowing (2 degrees). Hmmm. Bit of a shock to the system, I tell ya, 'cold' before that meant it was 18
degrees.
So, I'm home now..... but for how long?! ;-)
